Depth map generators that run on your machine
Tools that turn a flat image into something a machine can cut, engrave or print — on Windows and on Apple Silicon Macs. A one-time purchase with a lifetime license: no subscription, no cloud, no per-render credits.
One image in. Two very different files out.
Both tools read the same source photo. What separates them is the file they hand your machine — and that is the only thing you need to decide between them.

DepthGen Pro or VoxelPrime?
Pick by output, not by price. They solve different halves of the same problem.
| DepthGen Pro | VoxelPrime | |
|---|---|---|
| What it outputs | Grayscale depth maps and STL files | Layered 3D models for printing |
| Built for | CNC routers, fiber and CO2 lasers, 3D printing | FDM 3D printers |
| Runs on | Windows, or macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon — two builds, one license key that activates both | Windows |
| Typical job | Relief carving, photo engraving, coins and medallions | Lithophanes and multicolour relief prints |
| Stand-out feature | Photometric relief reconstruction, which rebuilds height from an object's own shading instead of flattening it | Colour planning that works without an AMS or MMU |
| Price | $49.00 once | $8.00 once |

Which tool do I need — DepthGen Pro or VoxelPrime?
Pick by the machine you are feeding. DepthGen Pro produces grayscale depth maps for CNC relief carving, laser engraving and STL export, so it is the one for routers, fiber and CO2 lasers. VoxelPrime produces layered models for lithophanes and multicolour relief prints, so it is the one for FDM 3D printers. DepthGen Pro ships as two builds, one for Windows and one for Apple Silicon Macs; pick by the computer on your desk, not by the price, because they cost the same and one key covers both.
Is there a Mac version of DepthGen Pro?
Yes. DepthGen Pro for macOS is a native Apple Silicon application for M1, M2, M3 and M4 Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It runs the depth model on your Mac's GPU through Metal, opens HEIC files directly, and produces the same output as the Windows build. One license key activates both platforms, so buying either one covers you on both.
Do these run offline?
DepthGen Pro runs entirely on your own machine, on Windows or on macOS. There is no cloud processing, nothing is uploaded, and no internet connection is needed once it is installed and activated.
Is this a subscription?
No. Both are a one-time payment with a lifetime license. There are no renewals, no per-render credits and no monthly fees.
What is a depth map, and why does my machine need one?
A depth map is a grayscale image where brightness represents elevation — white pixels are the highest points of the material and black pixels are the deepest. CNC and laser software such as Vectric Aspire, VCarve, LightBurn 3D Sliced Mode and xTool Creative Space read that grayscale data to decide how deep to cut at every point.
